The Future of Mobile Computing - Abstract

This talk will provide an overview of the mobile device market and current mobile platforms.  It will then elaborate on the specific characteristics of the many new platforms now reaching the market, including Google's Android, Palm's WebOS, Apple's iPhone/iPod Touch and the open-source Maemo system, among others.

The talk will answer practical questions such as:
  - which mobile platforms are the most promising technically?
  - what mobile platforms should I target when creating my mobile application or service?
  - can I develop an application using a single code base and support all of the popular mobile platforms?
  - what are the sorts of real-world problems I might encounter when developing a mobile application?
